Dean Del Hornbuckle

Dean of Library Services Del Hornbuckle has accepted the position of Executive Director of University Libraries at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Starting her 30-year career as an assistant librarian at the Ford Foundation in New York City, then as a metadata specialist at the IMF/World Bank Library in Washington, D.C., Dean Hornbuckle worked her way up through the librarian ranks into a management path. Her career has included special libraries, a three-campus community college system, an R1 institution (Harvard Business School’s Baker Library), a small New England liberal arts college, and then Fresno State. Returning to the District of Columbia to serve at a historically Black university of such distinction rounds out a diverse and wide-ranging path.

In her five years with the Fresno State Library, Dean Hornbuckle navigated the COVID-19 pandemic, during which the library closed its doors for only five months. She also oversaw the removal of the library name, guided the drafting of the Library’s first strategic plan, and led its first DEIAJ audit, accomplishments of which she is particularly gratified.

“I am so proud of our library team and what we have accomplished together, especially through difficult times. Each library employee is so impactful in their work every day. I have developed meaningful relationships and have been honored to invest in many people’s career paths and professional successes here at Fresno State,” Dean Hornbuckle said.

Dean Hornbuckle’s last day with Fresno State will be March 17, 2023. She has served as library dean since November 2017. The Academic Affairs will appoint an interim dean of the library and launch a search for the next dean in accordance with the campus policy.
