Fall 2026
To our new students, faculty, and staff, welcome to Fresno State! To our returning folks, welcome back! I love the energy at the start of fall semester. The beginning of an academic year bursts with possibilities–a fresh start, new classes, new friends, new opportunities to learn and grow. The Fresno State Library exists to help you realize those possibilities. Here you’ll find: places to study, collaborate, and socialize; technology and equipment you can borrow–free of charge–to help you learn and complete assignments; collections of books, media, music (we even have vinyl records), photographs, archival records, and more to help you learn and explore new ideas; and knowledgeable, skilled, and friendly staff to help you along the way.
In addition to all of the above, the library can be a place to escape the busyness of college life. With that in mind, I’ll share three of my favorite places to get away and find some peace and quiet:
- Table Mountain Rancheria Reading Room: This beautiful room on the 3rd floor of the North Wing offers soft, cozy chairs and couches as well as a few study tables and lots of natural light. It was designed to be a quiet study and contemplation space for students–and it is exactly that. Visit our Quiet Study Areas page for more information and a photo.
- Philip Levine Reading Room: Found on the 2nd floor of the North Wing, the Levine Reading Room is another cozy space with soft chairs and beautiful views–plus Levine’s personal library of poetry and literature.
- Leo Politi Garden: The Leo Politi Garden, located south of the library’s main entrance, feels like a secret hideaway. It includes a fountain (soon to be repaired), plantings, sculptures, mosaic tiles, and benches.
Whether you want quiet or conversations, study or relaxation, the library has a place for you.
