It is with great pleasure that the Library introduces the new curator for the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature. Karina Cardenas will begin on July 22. We have every confidence that Karina will be an excellent asset to the ANC. She received her MLIS from San Jose State University and began her career in our own Special Collections and Research Center. Most recently, Karina has worked in Special Collections at CSU Los Angeles, developing her expertise in archives and unique collections. She is also bi-lingual, and her portfolio is full of examples of working in the community to build collections, donor relations, and events. She will bring the enthusiasm and passion to create new and exciting programs in the ANC. In addition to Karina, administrative support will be provided by Denise Nuñez, who brings over 20 years of experience working in various units across campus to this position.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Taylor Petersen, the staff person who has been managing the ANC’s operations since May 2023. Taylor has completed projects cataloging new items, providing maintenance to the collections, and managing the Center’s funds. Taylor also increased outreach to campus faculty and welcomed hundreds of undergraduate students into the Center to introduce them to research in children’s literature. Taylor is now a lecturer in our Teacher Resource Center.
The Arne Nixon Center will be available to visitors by appointment until July 22 when the Center will resume regular hours. We hope our friends and advocates will welcome Karina with open arms and support her work in achieving the vision of Arne Nixon at the Fresno State Library. Please stay in touch for more updates as we head into the fall 2024 semester. For more information, contact library administration at 559.278.2403.
