To cap National Poetry Month, students and community are invited to an Open House at the Laureate Lab Visual Wordist Studio in the Fresno State Library on Tuesday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Library’s first floor.

Hosted by U.S. Poet Laureate Emeritus Juan Felipe Herrera and the Ohuaya Collective, the Open House offers an immersive, hands-on experience exploring poetry, art, and creative expression. Guests are welcome to drop in for a short visit to learn about the Lab’s activities or stay and create their own work. All materials will be provided, and everyone is encouraged to participate—no experience necessary.

The Ohuaya Collective, made up of local artists and poets, is dedicated to building creative bridges between students and the community through the vibrant space of the Laureate Lab (affectionately known as “La Lab”).

The Laureate Lab was founded in 2019 as the visionary project of Juan Felipe Herrera, transforming a corner of the Fresno State Library into a collaborative studio where words, images, and imagination come to life. Parking is available in P30 and P31 off of Barton Avenue. Passes are available for $5 from the dispenser on the south side of the Student Health Center facing Shaw Avenue (see map). Metered parking is also available. This event is sponsored by the Fresno State Library and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. All are welcome. Come curious. Leave inspired.
