Fresno State Library will be open 24 hours a day during finals week, beginning at noon on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025 and ending at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18.
These extended Bulldog Hours will only be available to current Fresno State students with a valid Fresno State ID. At 11 p.m. all patrons will exit the building, and students will be allowed to reenter with their student ID through the Solarium entrance on the east side of the library through the Leo Politi Garden.
Services during these extended hours will be limited to providing study space on the first floor solarium next to the south wing elevators. Research and access services staff, such as librarians or circulation desk assistance, will not be available. Other library resources such as computer access and printing are not in the designated study space and therefore will be unavailable during the overnight hours.
Many of the library’s resources and services are available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students may reserve a room, connect with a librarian, or browse online databases directly from the library’s website. In-building security services will be provided by the Fresno State Police Department’s Community Service Officers during the overnight study hours. Regular services will recommence each day at 7:45 a.m. according to our regularly scheduled hours.
Overnight hours in the library this semester are generously funded thanks to Associated Students Inc., in partnership with the Fresno State Police Department.
_______
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why can’t I use the rest of the library during the extended hours?
The library expects a lower student population to utilize the building overnight. By narrowing theavailable space during extended hours, we can more effectively monitor the building for safety and security.
Why aren’t the computers, printers or other services available during extended hours?
With a significantly lower student population anticipated overnight, limited services allow for campus staff to effectively meet the primary goal of providing a safe and quiet space for students to study. Many of the library’s resources and services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the website, library.fresnostate.edu. All library services will continue to be available during regular library hours.
I don’t have my student ID, but I’m a current student. Can I still get in?
For safety and security reasons, only current students with a valid Fresno State ID will be allowed in during extended hours. All ID cards will be swiped at the entrance before access is granted.
I’m a regular member of the community that enjoys using the library. Why can’t I get in?
At 8 p.m. the Library implements “Bulldog Hours,” where access is reserved only for Fresno State affiliates (students, employees). Overnight hours are an extension of Bulldog Hours and the priority is to provide a safe and quiet space for students to prepare for final exams. Members of the community are invited to enjoy the library during regular hours.
Will I be able to get help from a librarian overnight?
Librarians and other research assistants will not be available in person during the extended hours. However, you may use the “Ask a Librarian” feature at library.fresnostate.edu to contact a librarian at any time. Also available on the library’s website are hundreds of thousands online resources, course guides, e-books and more.
How is the extended hours program getting paid for?
This semester, the finals week extended hours are being generously sponsored by Associated Students, Inc. Additional staffing and security support is provided by the Fresno State Police Department.
Is this available every semester?
We carefully monitor the success and popularity of this service and we will consider providing it each semester if it is determined that this is the best way for the library to support academic success on campus.
I have additional questions that aren’t answered here. Who can I talk to?
You may call the library during regular hours at 559-278-2174 to speak with a representative, or visit the Circulation desk in the first-floor lobby.
