Each week of De-Stress Fest, we will have drawings for gift cards to local Fresno restaurants! To be entered in the drawing, attend a De-Stress Fest event and fill out a survey (link below). Still I Rise: Poetry Slam with CCGC & ASI
ASI, CCGC, and Henry Madden Library team up for Sexual Assault Awareness Month to host a poetry slam in honor of Survivors. Fresno State student poets are invited to perform work on this theme in a two-round poetry slam led by local poet, Jaie-Noelle. Prizes for the slam champions include gift cards and swag courtesy of ASI. The last 30 minutes of the event will include an open mic, available for all students and the Fresno community to perform. Join the Arne Nixon Center (ANC) for the Study of Children’s Literature at the Henry Madden Library for A Conversation with Margarita Engle, David Bowles, and Angela Dominguez. The three distinguished Latinx children’s authors will discuss the impact of their work for children and their experiences publishing diverse children’s literature. It will be the first event in our Diversity Conversation Series, a focused series about diversity in children’s literature from the viewpoint of authors, illustrators, practitioners, publishers, and scholars. The event is scheduled for Zoom on April 29, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Join us on Instagram Live @MaddenLibrary for a storytime featuring beautiful illustrated picture books from the Arne Nixon Center for Children’s Literature and Teacher Resource Center. The term “Own Voices” describes a book that features diverse characters and perspectives written by an author who shares those identities. Sit criss-cross applesauce as our Henry Madden Library workers read to you! May 3rd, 12th, and 13th at 1:00 – 1:30pm PST.
