Librarian Dave Tyckoson

Today is librarian Dave Tyckoson’s final day with the Henry Madden Library after 24 years of service. Believe us when we say we never expected it to look like this, in a nearly empty library offering only essential services. Amid our move to virtual services during the COVID-19 pandemic and working a skeleton crew in circulation, Dave’s celebratory send off has had to be postponed and we’re hoping that celebration comes sooner rather than later.

In the last week during this time of transition, Dave’s indomitable spirit, good humor, and commitment to the work of librarianship has carried so many of our people forward. Rather than taking vacation time owed to him or electing to telecommute, Dave volunteered to be one of the few to staff the circulation desk and field reference phone calls. His deep knowledge and love for what he does has kept those working during this time sane and inspired.

Dave, we at the Henry Madden Library cannot imagine having done this without you and we will be a little at a loss as you leave us for the joys of retirement. But we wish you all the great things your generous and giving spirit deserves.
